Understanding the Process of Car Shipping

So you are planning to ship a car, well first you need to understand the process of car shipping. This industry does not work like Fex-Ex, or other Postal services. Here the pick-ups and delivery dates offered are just estimates and not guaranteed. Unexpected troubles from weather conditions, break downs, traffic all may contributes to delay. The greatest agony here is that the delays for vehicle shipping is usually caused by the customers. Normally, they do not appear on time; attempt to change pick-up dates and locations at last minute. Patience and skill is required the most, car shipping companies generally aim to have your work done as you want it. Ensure you have sensible hopes about when your car would be picked up and delivered.

Know the types of Shipping
You will come across two types of car transport - open trailers and enclosed trailer. In the open trailers shipping is partly or completely exposed to the elements. In fact, there are several different kinds of open trailers, varying from small three car carriers to the huge 11 car carriers, which you normally see at Interstate. Secondly, enclosed trailers are fully protected from the elements, and your motor vehicle/car is just shipped in a mobile garage. Using the enclosed trailer method for shipping is typically a 25-40% premium over having on open trailer method. You can go with any kind; it all depends on how much you want to spend on shipping process.

Know about Price Factor
While some auto transport companies might not need payment beforehand, others may ask for a deposit (10-20% of the entire cost) before the shipping. If you desire to pay advance then the balance amount is always required to pay at the time of delivery. You would further require having a cashier check or cash set when the truck delivers your car. Some auto shipping companies might permit you to make payment via credit card upon delivery, but this is not actually usual.

Insurance - Most Important Factor
Your car must be insured against any damage, dent and robbery by the car shipping company you choose. Ensure you get a copy of the auto shipping company's insurance coverage beforehand you confirm car shipping and also do not forget to see if there is any deductible that you are liable to pay if damage and theft takes place. Everything related to the car delivery must be in writing in a document. It is probable that your car insurance coverage might cover your car during transit, and it is also suggested that you contact your own insurance company to check on the document. Further make sure that you take away your personal things from the car before shipping as they are not covered by the insurance company.
